Flying High: Taking Yoga to New Heights

Ever dream of flying high? Now you can! Beginning September 12th, 2012 we’re offering Aerial Yoga classes, a beautiful art form of yoga on circus silks taught by certified instructor Andrea Isabelle Lucas. Aerial yoga is designed to incorporate the balancing and stretching components of yoga with the strengthening and exhilarating components of aerial arts. Bored of the same workout routine or just want to try something new? Adding aerial yoga to your routine will loosen tight muscles and increase flexibility, build strength and stamina, tone your core and improve balance and coordination, allowing you to reach new fitness heights.

Instructor Andrea Isabelle Lucas has over five years and thousands of hours of experience teaching yoga, barre, and other fitness classes at various locations throughout Greater Boston including Equinox, Exhale and B Yoga. She completed training in Circus Yoga and Rasamaya Aerial Yoga, and has performed occasionally with a small circus troupe since 2009. Holding a B.A. in Women’s Studies and Holistic Wellness from Lesley University, Lucas is a lululemon ambassador for Boston’s Prudential Center store. She recently participated in a trip to Haiti with the non-profit yogaHOPE to study the use of yoga to heal trauma. With her expertise, Lucas will teach students how to blend traditional yoga with the unique physical training of an aerial acrobat. For more info on Andrea, visit andreaisabelle.com.

Aerial yoga lessons are offered as semi-private classes on Wednesday mornings at 10:30AM & Thursday evenings at 7:30PM beginning September 2012. Don’t think you’re strong enough? Not to worry. The class will include a yoga warm-up and stretches at beginning and end in order for our students to safely work on their flexibility. Rock climber or not, aerial yoga technique will completely transform any workout routine by adding new dimensions and turning your world (literally) upside down.

Pre-registration is necessary. For more information visit our website at  www.bostonrockgym.com

This summer,  we’re offering an exciting alternative to traditional summer camps with its diverse range of climbing programs designed to build climbing skills in children of all ages and all skill levels. By learning what it takes to be a successful rock climber, kids can reach new heights in all aspects of their lives, not just on the climbing wall.  From June 25th to August 31st, 2012, kids ages 10 and up will have an opportunity for an unforgettable week of all-day climbing adventures with the BRG’s Outdoor Climbing Camp, where they will travel to some of the most abundant climbing destinations in New England with the area’s most accomplished rock climbing professionals.

If you’re looking for less of a commitment, we also offer daily two-hour Kids Climb Classes where experienced instructors will belay children and encourage them to advance their skills. Kids Climb Classes offer the most convenient and flexible way for kids to learn lifelong skills and stay active on rainy summer days! With low rates of $25 per session and special rates for those who sign up for more than one class at a time, this opportunity is too good to pass up! Vertical Fashion Show

On April 19th, 2012 we were thrilled to be a part of the Revere Hotel Boston Common’s grand opening featuring an over-the-edge fashion show led our own Chris O’Connell, Jeff Previte, Nick Lewis and Joe Lentini. Dressed in designer duds from Ted Baker and students at the MassArt College several members and friends of the BRG acted as models for the afternoon fashion show and took high-fashion to new heights (literally!), as they strutted their stuff down the 24-stories tall vertical runway. VIPs gathered on a nearby roof-top to take in the sights and Bostonians passing by were wowed by what was taking place! We spent months preparing for this VIP event, and in the end result was everything we wanted and more.
